Hey everyone. Today, I am back with a simple yet delicious kala chana recipe with radish. 

I am a working mother, so for me quick recipes with simple ingredients is the holy grail. Hence, this recipe is exactly that.

Moreover, if you are looking to have something simple and healthy, this kala chana recipe will perfectly fit the bill. 

Not to mention, this recipe is quite a healthy option as black chickpea (kala chana) is a great source of protein and radish an excellent source of vitamin C.

Black Chickpea Recipe

Ingredients:

1. Kala Chana (Black Chickpea): 250 gms

2. Radish: 200 gms

3. Oil

4. Onions: 3, medium-sized, finely chopped

5. Tomatoes: 3, medium-sized, finely chopped 

6. Cumin Seed: 1/2 teaspoon

7. Cumin Powder: 1 teaspoon

8. Coriander Powder: 1 teaspoon

9. Ginger and Garlic Paste: 1/2 teaspoon each

10. Turmeric Powder

11. Chilli Powder: as per taste

12. Salt

13. Garam Masala: 1/2 teaspoon

14. Coriander Leaves


Method


Step 1:

Start off this black chickpea recipe by soaking it first for atleast 3-4 hours.

Chop the radish as shown in the picture.  


Step 2:

Heat the oil in a pressure cooker on medium flame and add cumin seeds.

After the seeds start to sizzle, add the finely chopped onions.


Step 3:

Once the onion turns brown, add ginger and garlic paste.

Mix it for a minute. Then add the finely chopped tomatoes.


Step 4:

Now, add the dry powders which are cumin, coriander, chilli and turmeric powder with salt. 

The gas should be on medium flame.

Cook everything for 2  minutes.


Step 5:

Now, add the soaked kala chana (black chickpea) and cook/ mix for 2 minutes. 

Pour a small cup of water and close the lid, leaving it until you get 2-3 whistles.


Step 6:

Open the lid and give everything a good mix. 

Add the chopped radish and mix it well. 

Now in accordance to the thickness of the gravy you want, add some water and close the lid for 1-2 whistles. 


Step 7:

Open the lid and check the consistency of the gravy. 

You can add water accordingly if you want some more gravy.

Sprinkle some garam masala and this amazing recipe is now ready to be served.


Transfer the recipe on a bowl and garnish with some fresh coriander leaves.

You can enjoy this recipe with rice, paratha and even plain rotis. 


You might want to know:

1. This obviously is a vegetarian recipe however, the aroma it emits is quite similar to that of meat. 

So, some might even get confused as to what exactly is getting cooked in the kitchen.
