Moong Dal Recipe With Okra
Moong Dal Recipe With Okra
This moong dal recipe brings back a lot of memories as it was my mother's recipe.
Growing up I remember my mother educating me about various healthier options in most of the dishes she cooked for us. As a result, this moong dal recipe was one of them.
I have always been an avid follower of using as less masala as possible in my food, hence for this recipe as well I have taken the same route.

10. Chilli Powder (optional) : 1 tablespoon
11. Ghee (optional): 1 tablespoon

Method
Step 1:
Start off the moong dal recipe by washing the dal and okra well. Cut the okra after you have washed it. You can soak the dal in water for 15 minutes.
Step 2:
Heat the oil in a pressure cooker on medium flame and add some cumin seeds. When the seeds start to sizzle, add the finely chopped onions and leave it for a minute.
Step 3:
Add some ginger and garlic paste and stir it for a minute. Then go ahead and add some turmeric and chilli powder. Leave it for 30 seconds and then add the moong dal.
Step 4:
Stir the dal occasionally for atleast 5 minutes until it changes its colour. Then add the okra again stirring it occasionally for 5 minutes.
Step 5:
Then add the tomatoes and stir it for a minute. Pour 2 cups of water in the pressure cooker and cover the lid, letting it cook for 5-6 whistles on medium flame.
Step 6:
Now, open the lid and check whether the dal is cooked well or not. Once it is cooked, make sure you mash the dal and okra for a smooth dal texture.
Step 7:
Now, in accordance to the consistency you want for the dal, add some water making sure the dal does not get too runny or watery. Then, add some garam masala and some fresh coriander leaves.
Step 8:
Now cover the lid and let the dal boil, then finally pour some ghee over the dal.
Pour the dal in a bowl, garnish with fresh coriander leaves and your moong dal is ready to be served.
