Jackfruit Recipe | Katahar Ko Tarkari
Jackfruit Recipe | Katahar Ko Tarkari
Hey everyone. Today I have my favourite jackfruit recipe to share with you all.
Jackfruit is considered to be a good source of fibre and vitamin A.
In my household, my family calls it the vegetarian version of meat because that is exactly how I like my katahar to taste.
My only attempt with all my vegetarian recipes is to make it enjoyable even for people who do not enjoy veggies that much.
With this jackfruit recipe, I've tried to achieve the same.
This jackfruit recipe is tender, succulent and extremely juicy, cooked with amazing spices , however if not cooked properly, jackfruits can end up being bland and bitter.
So try this recipe everyone and let me know what you think.
Katahar ko Tarkari
Ingredients:1. Jackfruit (Katahar): 1/2 kg
2. Potatoes (optional): 250 gms, boiled
3. Tomato Puree: 100 gms
4. Onion Puree: 2, big sized
5. Oil
6. Cumin Seeds: 1/2 teaspoon
7. Cumin Powder: 1 tablespoon
8. Coriander Powder: 1 tablespoon
9. Chilli Powder: as per taste
10. Garam Masala: 1 teaspoon
11. Turmeric Powder: 1/2 teaspoon
12. Ginger & Garlic Paste: 1 teaspoon each
13. Salt: as per taste
14. Coriander Leaves
Method:
Step 1:
Start off this katahar ko tarkari by washing and cutting the jackfruit first.
Boil the potatoes and cut them into pieces and keep it aside.
Step 2:
Heat the oil in a pan on medium flame to fry the jackfruit and potato.
Fry the jackfruit and potato and when it starts to get brown, transfer them into a bowl.
Step 3:
If the oil is adequate in the pan, add the cumin seeds.
Once it starts to sizzle, add the onion puree and cook/mix it until the puree turns brown.
Now, add ginger and garlic paste.
Cook for 30 seconds and then add cumin powder, coriander powder, chilli powder, turmeric powder and salt.
Mix everything for a minute.
Step 4:
Now, pour in the tomato puree and mix for 2 minute.
If you think the tomato is cooked, then add the jackfruit and potato and mix it thoroughly.
Add a little bit of water and then cook it for 2 minutes with the lid closed.
Step 5:
Now, open the lid, and according to the consistency you want for your gravy, add some water to the recipe.
Add some garam masala and coriander leaves.
Cook it until the water is boiled.
And there you have it folks, your tasty katahar ko tarkari is now ready to be served.
Garnish with some coriander leaves.
Bonus Tips:
1. You can boil the katahar without frying it as well, but fried katahar will give a unique arome to the curry.
